Many of you are aware of my huge passion (some call it an obsession) for all things Disney. Since they first announced this was in the works, I have been super excited to watch this live action remake of a beloved animated Disney movie. A few weeks ago a media frenzy ensued about the release of this highly anticipated movie. Many things were published online about the director's comments about some things he alluded were in the movie. Blog posts, reviews, articles, etc. began to appear ALL over the place. As I began to read some - I struggled on what I should do about the movie.

I have spent my entire adult life coming alongside parents as they muddle through raising warriors for Jesus in a world that is getting harder and harder to navigate. Never do I want my actions or endorsements to ever be a stumbling block for anyone- especially children. I wasn't sure what to think after reading so much. Until I read a blog from someone who had actually seen the movie (before it had been released). I have searched to find it again- a friend on Facebook had posted it. I so wish I had kept it. I'd like to thank the blogger - she encouraged me to go see the movie and see for myself what I thought of all the "hub bub".

So today I saw the movie. Here is what I posted on Facebook-

I wanted to decide what I thought about all the "hub bub" prior to it's release myself. And unless I missed it - there was no kiss. A couple of innuendos on a couple of things - less than in most movies I've seen targeted for kiddos. I really liked the movie. It was awesome. I had a few favorite parts - but I won't spoil it for others. Oh the music- wonderful. I will be singing those songs for a while in my head. I will tell you if you have young children or kids who tend to be scared easily- the wolf scenes and a couple of the ones with the Beast are pretty intense. So there is my two cents for what it is worth!

I have been shocked at the number of responses. Most all have the same sentiment about the movie as I expressed. A few asked me if they could share my post- which was very humbling. It also has reminded me that others are always watching us. Most people claim to have one in life. Many are famous people or people who are very accomplished in their career. Some have heroes who are considered "unsung" because they have gone unrecognized for their contribution and/or bravery. According to Webster's the definition of hero is - a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities. : a person who is greatly admired. : the chief male character in a story, play, movie, etc.

I heard a real hero speak over the weekend. You may have heard of her although many have not. Her name is Gracia Burnham. You can read about her story HERE! I was excited about the Voice of Martyrs Conference was coming to my church! My husband and I signed up to attend. Then I heard that Gracia Burnham was coming. Several things came up the week before and it would have been understandable (and easy) for me to back out of attending. The Lord prompted my heart that Mike and I needed to be at the conference.

I enjoyed every single speaker. The Lord taught me so much about those who suffer and are persecuted for their faith. The Lord convicted me greatly of how I do not pray often enough for my brothers and sisters in the faith who risk their life to live for Jesus. The Lord gently convicted me I don't thank Him often enough for the freedom I have been given to safely worship and live for Him. It was oh so encouraging to hear reports from those who work in hard places all over this great big world of how many are accepting Jesus. It was encouraging to know that even though the "news" reports of so many bad things that the Light is shining bright!

I discovered that Gracia Burnham would be speaking at a local church the next evening. I wanted to hear more. The most impressive thing about Gracia sharing her story is that she has an amazing ability to use her experiences to challenge and encourage her listeners in the places they may be at the moment.

Gracia was a missionary serving in the Philippines who was taken hostage (along with her husband, Martin) in 2001. They remained in captivity for over a year. Captivity ended after a gun battle where the Philippines military attempted to rescue the hostages. Unfortunately, Martin died in that gun battle and although Gracia was wounded, she survived. I am currently reading her book In The Presence of My Enemies!

Here are some things Gracia shared that are great reminders and encouragement to all believers...

In every situation, if you look, there is good because there is God. He has not abandoned you!

Pray for those who spitefully use you.

Ask God to help your attitude toward your enemies.

Change is hard and as Mark Twain said - the only person who likes change is a wet baby!

We can decide to trust ourselves or trust God.

Do not hang a "Do Not Disturb" sign on your heart's door.

God takes us in hard situations not to crush us but to show us He is good.

Keep planting even when you don't see fruit.

Maybe you are in a dark place due to no fault of your own or totally your fault....maybe you are there to praise Him in that dark place.

God has not abandoned you. He may have you in this "special" place so you can Praise Him- the one who can take you through any trial. Simply Praise Him where you are.

I was thoroughly blessed by hearing of Gracia's experiences and have her speak into my life! I highly encourage you if you ever have the opportunity to hear her speak - GO! Don't let anything stand in your way. And in the mean time - read her books!

I am excited for a special upcoming night at church. Families from our church and community will have the opportunity to step back in time. Each participant will begin in our sanctuary with our Co-Pastors leading in "setting the stage" for what they are about to experience. Then they will begin their journey for their family to take part in the census. They will then enter in the marketplace area and experience the different shops to barter and buy for all your family needs.

Then they will step outside to try and find a room in the inn. However, because there is no room they will be offered space among the animals. Participants can interact with the animals before they come to the manger where baby Jesus was born.

Families will then have the opportunity to enjoy Christmas cookies and drinks together as they come back inside the church. It is our pray this night will provide many opportunities for teachable moments about the greatest gift ever given - Jesus!
It is a fun week where children get to pick different tracks (like animal lovers, creative cooking, rainbow loom, etc.) and experience some of their favorite things or for some try brand new things.

We are using the new Zip for kids! curriculum for part of X-Play Which by the way kudos to Lifeway for this incredible help in planning. I've been doing a day camp type thing for over 15 years and finally something that can help us with this fun week. If you haven't tried it you should. And no I don't get anything for saying that- no free stuff, no kickback- nada, nothing. But what you will get is some great tools to assist you! By the way it is not just for day camps but you can use it in a variety of settings. Click here to go learn more!

So one of my main reasons for blogging today - is I decided to show the kids how I would trust in God. I showed the video that comes with Zip today- it is an intro video and they followed up in Bible Study. The video shows a kid named Matthew who is afraid to jump off the diving board at his community pool. He decided that he could face his fear and trust God to help with overcoming this fear. So I told the kids of my silly but real fear. I am almost a little embarrassed to even write what I am afraid of ...........but here goes.... I am afraid of frogs. I have never touched one or held one but I told them if someone would bring one tomorrow I would face my fear and hold it. Now I am sitting in my office while they are having fun in tracks- thinking what in the world was I thinking. Now tomorrow if Austin really does bring a frog- I have to hold it. Yikes! I don't know why I am fearful of something so small that can't harm me but I am .

What is something you fear? Are you trusting God today with it?

Although my fear of frogs is a silly fear there are other things I seriously fear. I am thankful for a God who is trustworthy. I am thankful for the fear of things like being accepted, fitting in, walking through a sickness, etc. that God is right there with each of us. He wants us to trust Him with the silly and small things to the big and serious things in our lives.

So back to this fear of frog thing.....

I hope he is a nice frog. Tune in tomorrow for pictures and possibly a video of me and a new friend!

I am sure you all have heard about making a bucket list. When you Google bucket list the definition you will find is - a number of experiences or achievements that a person hopes to have or accomplish during their lifetime. Adults may have even seen the 2007 movie, The Bucket List, where two terminally ill men (played by Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson) go on a road trip to do the things they wanted to do before they died (kicked the bucket). I personally haven't seen the movie but according to the online "urban dictionary" this movie made the term popular. Well not just the term but people actually making a bucket list increased. I haven't personally made a bucket list but would like to do so.

I have the privilege to facilitate a group of moms who meet monthly. The speakers, topics, crafts, etc. are varied. As I began to prepare for our May meeting, I looked for activities I might tell our moms about as they began to plan for their kiddos summer. I was able to tell them about lots of things - reading clubs, cheap movies, parks, where to pick berries, etc. It was a great time of sharing ideas. However, in my preparation I came across the blog The Happy Family Movement . It was full of different families summer bucket lists. I began to print out and copy some of them to share with our moms. Well, I got a little copy crazy and realized I had better stop or I would be responsible for the elimination of a small tree with all the paper I was using! At that time their 2014 Summer Bucket info was not posted- but good news- it is now. I sat and read for a while (a long while) all the lists posted. It is fun to get ideas from other families and also see some of the fun things they have available in their corner of the world. I also enjoyed seeing all the ways some of them posted them for the summer- on chalkboards, pennants they hung, creative bulletin boards, charts, lists, etc.

On that May day I challenged our moms to begin to make their Summer Family Bucket List. I did however ask them not to complete their list. I asked them to allow their family to join together and all add something. I understand that sometimes it can be scary to ask your kids what is something they want to do during the summer. However, they may surprise you. Often times you may be afraid they are going to ask for that trip to Disney or the beach that you know is not in the budget this summer. When you begin sharing as a family your kids just may surprise you. They may want something really simple. Something you know your family can easily achieve - a campfire, a family bike ride, flying a kite, going to a local park, etc. They may still ask for that destination you know you can not check off this summer but you can turn that into a positive as well. This can be a teachable moment when you share that your family can begin to save for that special destination. If so, make a special bank or decorate a jar to begin saving.

Along the Summer Family Bucket List journey, remember to document the memories being made. Display pictures and souvenirs in a prominent place in your home. I realize some of those souvenirs may not go with your decor. Especially if your son or daughter has collected rocks all summer because that is what they wanted on the Bucket List. But when you do give their souvenir (or collection) a prominent place in your home, you are speaking volumes to your child. You have just told them what they care about is important to you.

So a few weeks ago, our moms started bucket lists for the summer. I did too. I don't have children in my home so I collaborated with my husband to finalize our Summer Bucket List. Listed below is our list. I encourage you to make one too- it is not too late. Many consider Memorial Day what kicks off summer, so it has just started! I also created a Facebook page to post things your family plans to do (with information about where, when, how much, etc.) so others can learn about as well. In the beginning I planned on it being a page for our area- but quickly realized others were joining outside our area as well. I am excited about that because we can learn things to do not only in Cleveland, Tennessee but many, many other places as well. Take a moment and "like" the FBC Summer Bucket List Adventures page please! Also please post pictures and information about your family's adventures!

I also encourage you to check out The Happy Family Movement's resource page- this year there are facebook groups, pinterest boards, guides, sponsors, etc.
I love seeing them in their environment and with their peers. I have decided to blog each week with what I learn from these visits. I have had the privilege to have 3 of these lunches so far (two in public schools and one lunch at the church for homeschool kiddos). The snow has my schedule a little off. I always take my lunch. From my best recollection I almost always took my lunch as a kid too. I know at one point I had a strawberry shortcake lunch box. It probably looked something like this:

Lunch boxes are very different now. I will have to try and take some pictures of lunch boxes. I sure wish I still had my metal lunchboxes because I hear they are worth a lot of money now. However, I am so sentimental I would most likely never be able to part with them.

Here are some lessons I have learned so far this year:

Google can not be trusted for directions- instead of taking me to South Polk Elementary the directions took me to Benton Elementary.

When you are lost the school secretary is your best friend!

Some children you think are quiet and shy will really open up when you spend one on one time with them at the guest table.

As I met one child for lunch (after she had been through the lunch line) she had purchased her an ice cream but also purchased one for me! I loved having a push pop - it had been a long time since I had eaten one. More than anything I loved the kindness she displayed.

Homeschoolers loves being able to get together for special outings. (and so do their parents!)

Some of our schools have unbelievable diversity. As I sat with 4 young men at lunch- 3 of them knew 2 languages and one knew 3 languages. The languages they knew were English, Spanish, Arabic and Filipino.

Lesson number 6 was perhaps the biggest lesson I have learned so far. Why? It was a great lesson perhaps a reminder, of the many nationalities that live in Bradley County. You may wonder about what the importance of this fact. The opportunity to share Christ among our neighbors in our city and county is far reaching. Among those who may never leave Bradley County are people who will leave. Some will move to different places within the United States. There are also many who will leave this great nation and return to their homeland.

This lesson reminded me I need to be about telling others about Christ and facilitating ministries that can reach children for Christ. It will have a great impact on our country as well as many others. My Co-Pastor Jim often says - we can reach the world for Christ from Bradley County. So very true.

It also reminded me it starts with my physical neighbors. Do you know your neighbors? This is something I need to be more intentional about because I do not know all my neighbors.

Lessons often bring challenges. I am challenged and am asking God to help me in these areas. How is HE challenging you today?

Much Love!
Mrs. Tara
Deadlines, volunteer spots to fill, leader training, Fall kick off, meetings, new Family Check in procedures, new kid's ministry schedule........just to name a few things that are occupying my time these days. I am feeling a little overwhelmed but I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I commented to a friend tonight- All the things we are encountering God knows we can handle. Can you imagine the things that we are never faced with because He knows it is way too much? It reminds me that all the things on my plate right now I can handle and conquer in and through Him!

Glad I can rest in Him and place all my worries (STRESS) at His feet. Working diligently to accomplish many tasks. Will you take a moment and pray that our church staff would follow His steps as we are preparing for some exciting things in the life of our church?

Personally you can pray for the following for me and the Children's Ministry:

I will listen and follow God in leading the Children's Ministry

God would continue to bring together the two teams for Kid's Church

Volunteers that are needed for weekly, monthly and quarterly positions would be filled with people ready to teach children how to love Jesus with their whole heart (Discovery Zone, Kid's Church and AWANA)

Pray God will help me be faithful to follow up and discipleship with children who accept Christ

Pray God will help me launch a new Neighbor to Neighbor Ministry this fall

Pray that on a personal level that I am diligent and faithful in my quiet time

Ask God to help Mike and I to continually strengthen our marriage

And on one last personal note- pray for me as I try to continually work on eating dinner home more (because I've cooked) rather than eat out..... I keep telling myself = "The crockpot is my FRIEND!" As you pray that prayer for me (I am serious too!), I am asking if the Lord reminds of you of a quick and easy recipe or crockpot recipe to please send it my way!

Thankful His love and mercy are new every single day!

Thankful I know He loves me!

Much Love!

Yes, I am talking about the magical place of Walt Disney World. I love it and am actually some think I am obsessed. Often I am asked to give advice to those going for the first time. I finally have made a document that I can email out to those wanting some advice......... or go to lunch with a friend asking. The document is a work in progress document. I try to think of all the things I have learned from all my visits and often those are learned from friends who share my love for this magical place.

A few of my tips are-

Disney allows you to take snacks inside the park. I always take bottled water in my backpack.

Everyone should ride the ferry boat to Magic Kingdom at least once - you can take gorgeous pictures.

Always use the Disney Photo Pass- even if you do not purchase any of their pictures. After they take your Photo Pass picture ask them to take a picture with your camera. This is one way to get all of your family/party in the picture. Plus they have the "prime" spots for photo opportunities.

A great souvenir for children is to let them press pennies throughout Disney World. They also make books for you to put the pennies inside. This can not only be a lot of fun for your children but also cheaper than purchasing souvenirs inside each store.

Your first trip in the Magic Kingdom you need to go down Main Street to have this "magical" experience. After that first time, board the train after you enter the park and ride to the back of the park. Begin riding rides there and work your way through the park. Don't forget to get fast passes where you can (and look into the option to sign up for fast passes when you book your trip- I am not sure of all the "rules" of this because it is new).

If you are traveling with children- especially preschoolers- go to the park early to ride. Head back to your resort for nap time and then head back to the park late afternoon / evening.

Remember most people visit the Magic Kingdom on the first day of their trip (Sunday or Monday). So if you can avoid MK on these days. Crowd forecasters say the best day is Wednesday (unless it is a holiday).

Visit Downtown Disney if for no other reason than to see the Lego displays, the free shows and experience the excitement at this stop full of shopping, restaurants and views. I always visit the Once Upon A Toy store to see what Potato Head pieces they have in stock. For $19.99 you can fill a box full of Disney Character pieces (don't waste your space on a potato head, you can get those really cheap at Wal-mart or Target).

These are just a few of my tips - what are some of your tips?

I also get asked what are my favorite restaurants. I am on a quest to visit as many restaurants as I can. Here are a few of my favorite -

Favorite Character Meal - Chef Mickey

Favorite Buffet - 'Ohana

Favorite Fancy Meal - Le Cellier Steakhouse

Favorite Counter Service - I have never had a bad meal - don't really have a favorite.

Favorite "Chain" - Rain Forest Cafe

Favorite Snack Shop -Sleepy Hollow (funnel cakes are my favorite)

I am often asked if I ride the rides and my answer is YES. Although I don't ride many roller coasters anymore, I do enjoy all the other things. I love, love the shows. I love to people watch. My favorite things to do are the fireworks and the parades. I also love to look for Hidden Mickey's. You can purchase a book to help you with this quest. Sometimes I get my picture made with the characters- sometimes I don't. I visit all the parks. My favorite is Magic Kingdom. My passion for this place began when my parents took my sister and I along with my grandparents, aunt and uncle to Ft. Wilderness for our first trip. I visit several times a year and due to this I purchase an annual pass. You should look into it if you purchase tickets for a week.

Here is my Disney Board on Pinterest! Do you have one? If so I would love for you to leave your link in a comment.

I have read many books on Walt Disney and books about Walt Disney World's customer service. My dream would be to go to the Disney World Institute. I can't imagine how fabulous that would be since I thought the behind the scenes tour (Keys to the Kingdom) was amazing.

So who wants to guess how many trips I have been to Disney World (not times through the gate but trips because I may go 5 times in one trip). Let the guessing begin............

Much Love and Blessings!
And yes my favorite character is the mouse himself!
A sound that took me back to my childhood. It took me to a special place. It is a place I simply call "The Ball Field".

When you grow up in a family who loves softball you spend many days at this place. Just thinking back brings many moments flooding to my mind. A big smile spreads across my face as I shut my eyes and go back in time. For just a moment I can smell, even taste this place. I smell hot dogs and popcorn. I begin to crave a cherry sno cone. I snarl my face as I remember the times I tasted dirt in my mouth. I can hear the cheers and encouraging words of team mates. I hear my coach clap his hands and point his finger to his eye and tell me to keep my eye on the ball. I hear that coach call time out and pull me to this side and tell me to take a deep breath and tell me I can do this. I shake my head and tell my dad (yes he was always the coach) that I am ready. I head to the batter's box - remembering that anxious feeling that your team was counting on you. I remember the pats on the back with words next time when I struck or grounded out. I can feel the high fives and excitement when I got a hit or threw someone out.

I am sitting in my car now but can't seem to move. My drive down memory lane isn't over. I am laughing. I look around wondering if anyone can see me because they will surely think I am crazy. I am laughing hard. I am remembering this silly song my mom sang. No, she didn't really sing it she screamed it. My teammates as well as my two younger sister's teammates always loved it. Funny I don't remember how she got started with this little song. But we loved it. The song was about a little chicken who wouldn't lay an egg. I can't seem to remember all the words- I need to ask her for them.

I realize I need to leave but all the sudden I see lots of faces - as if they are scrolling on a movie screen. I see team mates, coaches, umpires, parents, siblings, etc. I remember special memories with so many of them.

I am thankful for "The Ball Field" because it taught me so much about life. It taught me about having a extended family with those in the softball world. It showed me my parents were willing to make sacrifices for me to be able to play and travel to tournaments. It took our family to many exciting places. More than anything it made me a better person.

If you were to pick a place from your summer memories, where would you go?

Those times you may wonder- even if for just a moment- if He is near or cares. I know I have those times when I feel down and those feelings can overwhelm you. Before anyone wonders if I am having a break down- relax. I am fine. But if we are all real we have those times that we need encouraged.

I don't know why I stand amazed when He orchestrates so many things that lifts my spirits. Most of the time individuals have no idea what their actions mean to me...................

Today I needed to feel Him close and He did just that in the following ways (and more) ........

a kind word

a smile

a hug

a friend who sat beside me and went over a list just so I would feel better

a little child declaring "I love you Mrs. Tara"

sunshine

gifts to our mission team from lots of people

encouraging words that reminds you why you do what you do (and who you do it for)

forgiveness

friends

He is good, He is faithful. He loves me. He loves you! He not only cares about the BIG stuff in life but the small stuff too. He knows just when we need reminded of His love. And friends HE loves us, oh, how HE loves us!

Much Love!

I had saved the last egg (aka the special egg) for a little boy that I thought needed to feel extra special that day. He kept asking if it was his turn to open the egg and I would reply not yet, be patient. I was super pumped for him thinking he was gong to be so excited.

However, I did not stop to think about his age and the fact that he couldn't fully grasp the concept that this special egg was empty because of the incredible gift Jesus gave to us on the cross of Calvary. Anticipation built in both of us. I couldn't wait for him to realize he had the most special egg of all- the empty one to represent that Jesus is alive! His anticipation was to see what was in his egg like everyone else. Never in a million years could I have prepared myself (or the other kids) for what happened when he opened his egg. Instead of excitement and great joy there were tears. A lot of tears. Oh my goodness it was a colossal fail on my part. To top it all off I was in seminary studying children's ministry and childhood development at the time. I should have realized he could not grasp abstract concepts at his age. I just wanted him to feel special. I got him calmed down and tried to recover somewhat for the main point of the group devotion.

As I reflect on the happenings so many years ago, it makes me wonder how many adults don't grasp the concept that the tomb is empty and HE is ALIVE! It makes me wonder do they realize He died for them. For each of us. For my sins and yours. Yes He loves us that much!

You can get these on Amazon Here!

Note- I highly recommend the Resurrection eggs as a teaching tool. However, I advise you learn from my mistake.
It doesn't really seem possible. Seven whole days since I have left a gorgeous country. A country I fell in love with many years ago. I have been to Nicaragua at least seven times maybe eight- I have lost count. What I am certain is each time re-entry into my culture becomes a little more difficult.

I came back this time not feeling well- a silly double ear infection that airline flights didn't help. I will be glad when I am feeling 100% physically. However, that is really not what I am referring to when I mentioned re-entry. What I am speaking about is trying to wrap my mind around all my eyes and heart took in during the week.

I have pondered my time in this beautiful country and with precious friends (both new ones and old ones). As I sit in my air conditioned house that has all the modern conveniences our culture offers and type on my laptop with the Internet that runs in my house, I can't help but be a little numb. You see I've been pondering what I am going to eat for dinner- take out, a pizza from the freezer, soup from the pantry, a sandwich, leftovers from the fridge ..... really my options are unlimited. To be honest though- I can't decide what to eat. The phrase "being hungry" takes on a new meaning. I don't know that I have ever truly felt "hungry". As I sit here in Cleveland, Tennessee with the many blessings that surround me, I do so knowing that in a little place called Los Sanchez their are hungry people. People that on good days drink a little coffee for breakfast (they grow it there) and hopefully the energy from about half a cup of coffee would keep them going until dinner. Most days they will be blessed to eat rice and beans for dinner.

The people of Los Sanchez are happy, content, thankful, blessed and so faithful. Faithful to a Savior they love and trust. Faithful to their Provider.

I continue to ponder and ask God to fill me with a happiness, contentedness, and faithfulness like my friends.

May I never be the same- may I never forget!
Much Love!
I set out this morning on a journey. This journey is taking me back to a country that I love so very much. A country I have missed over the past few years. The country is NICARAGUA!

I am leading a team from our church as we serve in the community of Los Sanchez. Our team is blogging this week- Click HERE to read more about our team being On Mission for HIM.

My husband and I been On Mission for Him in the country of Nicaragua quite a few times. We have not been back for several years. Our last trip here was for what we thought was to finalize adoption papers for two little girls we had met in Nicaragua in an orphanage. However, it was not to be. In our hearts they will always be "our" girls. Due to these circumstances I have not been able to return here. It was just too painful. I always knew I would come back one day. After all I fell head over heals in love with this country and it's people. I want them to know Jesus and His love fully.

Well today was the day. The time had come - I was suppose to return. I really thought I would be a basket case and have asked tons of people to pray for me specifically in this area. Well guess what? I am okay. I know people are praying for me. Now that doesn't mean you can stop praying. Why? Well tomorrow is another day and well, I am human. I too often live in my old earthly, sinful flesh.... and to be honest sometimes I can wallow in it with the best of them. I try my best to walk in His Spirit and claim the victory He has already won. But since I have already been really honest with you and transparent (which is hard for me to do) can I tell you something else? Sometimes, gulp, gasp--- wallowing in my flesh is easier, sometimes it is what I want to do and I don't care what anyone says about it. Then as the Holy Spirit so consistently does- He gently (or at times pretty aggressively) reminds me what His word says about my fleshy and sinful self.

And most of the time (but sadly not all of the time) I repent to my Heavenly Father over my actions, attitudes, words and thoughts that have grieved Him so desperately. And oh the freedom that comes when I make my relationship with Him right.

So what does all of this have to do with my heart being happy and Nicaragua?

My heart is happy because being here in Nicaragua this week is right where I am suppose to be. I believe I am smack dab in the middle of His will for my life by returning to serve here.

My heart is happy because of the prayers you are offering up for me and the strength I have in Him over this area of my life that normally- well, being completely honest again- makes me very emotional.

Thank you for standing in the gap asking the Father to be all I need personally this week. Thank you for praying this week will be all He wants it to be. I can't wait to see all He does.

Much Love!
I forgive you! Three simple words. Yet at times they are both hard to say and hard to receive. Too often I walk in my flesh and not in His spirit. It is in the times I am in my flesh I struggle the most with these words. I forget too often - He forgave me and continues to forgive me - everyday. I forget I am a sinner saved by grace. Not because there is anything about me that deserves grace. He so freely lavishes grace on me. He desires to lavish it on anyone who will call upon His name.

I also forget that sin is sin to Him. There is not one that is less of a sin than another. Each one nailed Him to a cross. Without that cross there would not be forgiveness and grace. Even though the consequences are different for each sin, each sin is the same. Sin grieves Him.

Often times we act as if there is more severity to certain sins - I do. You do. Sadly, we, the church does. People end up wounded, offended and suffer in silence. Sadly some walk away completely.

I knew when I saw October Baby at the theater I would one day own this movie. It wasn't just because a guy from the high school I graduated from produced it. It wasn't just because it was a Christian movie. It was because of the powerful message of forgiveness. It was because of the truth of the beauty of life- every life. My sweet husband surprised me with the DVD last night. As I watched the movie again I was overwhelmed by the message of forgiveness!

It was also impressed on my heart of the men and women who may watch this and allow their heart to heal. I prayed that as the words "I forgive you" were shown they would be overcome with forgiveness and love. Forgiveness and love from a loving God who is ready to wrap them up with His grace. A Savior who wants to clothe them in His goodness. A King who is ready to set them free!

I am prayed for me / us the church. I prayed that we will be more like Him each day.

If you haven't seen this movie- I encourage you to watch it! For families with elementary aged children, I encourage parents to watch this movie without children the first time. As a parent, you know your child the best and will know if this is a movie they are ready for. Some will be and I encourage you to allow them to watch this with you. I do think you will need to be prepared to answer some questions. Don't be afraid of questions they may ask. Watching it first without your children will allow you to be prepared for things they may ask. I believe movies like this provide parents great opportunities to have healthy conversations in a safe environment their children.

Because I believe so strongly in this movie. I am giving away a copy of the DVD. Leave a comment letting me know you would like to be entered in the contest. The contest will end next Thursday at midnight (Thursday, September 30th, midnight est). If you share this post, I will enter your name in the drawing twice. Make sure to tell me in your comment where you shared the post!

Note - don't just quit watching when the credits begin to roll. Watch Shari's testimony - you will be blessed!
And for those wondering who the producer is - it is the amazingly talented and Purple Pounder Alumni Cecil Stokes. So super excited to see how God continues to use Him.

This week one of my favorite groups gathered together after a short break. We had a pinterest party. We made some crafts inspired by pinterest. One of those crafts were jars that could be a date night jar, family nights or whatever you wanted it to be. Some ladies who home school did a field trip jar.

The idea is you write on the craft sticks (with a sharpie marker) some ideas for your specific jar.

Why make a jar? Well have you ever had a conversation that goes something like this..........What do you want to do?

The other person says, I don't care, what do you want to do?

Well I have- many times. Often times with my spouse. I know there are times when I have to make decisions all day long and I don't want to make one more decision- even it is where are we going to eat dinner. So enter in my date night jar and I don't have to have that conversation when deciding on a date destination.

Some of my ideas were ............

picnic at the Ocoee Center

bowling

have dessert and go to a bookstore

go see the penguins (at the Tennessee Aquarium)

dinner and a movie

watch a UT sporting event

I also put some specific restaurants we like

What type of jar would you make? What kind of things would you put in a date night jar?

On a side note if you are married and not going on dates with your spouse, why not? Let me encourage you to make dating your spouse a priority. I promise it is an investment worth making!

Much Love!
Although few knew her name before July 27, 2012, Gabby Douglas is now a household name for many. I would also venture to say not just in the USA but across the world. Gabby won gold in the Individual All-Around and gold in Team Events. She is also the first African-American lady to win the All-Around gold. What an incredible accomplishment.

She is already being called an American sweetheart, an icon and a celebrity. She has appeared on Good Morning America, The Today show, Time magazine, a cereal box and the front page of newspapers world wide. She is an incredible young lady from all I have read. I am not the only one searching to find out more about Gabby. Google reports she was among their "hot searches" list last week - with over 500,00 hits on her name. One article I read reports Gabby and her mother were among those who joined in the Google search. One thing she found was those criticizing her hair- which she called "bizarre."

Her coach says that when Mary Lou Retton became the first American to win the Gold in the All-Around gymnastics competition ever- gymnastics participation in the states doubled that next year. He can't imagine what will happen this time. I think little girls everywhere will want to be like Gabby and flock to gymnastic centers around the world. And I say- Go girls Go!

Gabby has given the praise and thanks to Jesus. She states it in interviews and tweets. I looked it up myself after I began following her on twitter ( https://twitter.com/gabrielledoug). She tweets Bible verses, encouraging words, and other things 16 year old tweet about. One of her latest tweets - Gabrielle Douglas

I know we all have our faults and make mistakes- scripture tells us that (Romans 3:23) BUT she is one young lady who is trying her best to use the platform God has given her to praise Him. It is my prayer that just as little girls will flock to be like her in the sport of gymnastics- they will also be inspired to follow after Him with all they do and say! I am praying as she is advised on endorsements, speaking engagements and anything else tied to her name. I am praying knowing she has the opportunity to share with many, I am praying they will know the strong name of Jesus and His great love for them!

It is that time of year again when we are all drawn to our televisions and computers. We are drawn to root for our country! I love watching the Olympics. One of my favorite things to watch is the Opening Ceremonies. This year it happened to fall on my birthday- what a way to celebrate. Thank you London!
It is always interesting to hear what people think of the presentation. This year (especially due to the increase of social media use) people definitely had an opinion. You either really liked it or really disliked it. My favorite part is always the Parade of Nations. I love watching the athletes and all their excitement. As we drove home from my parents the Lord impressed upon my mind that so many of these athletes (both from our country and the many others) may have never heard of the incredible love Jesus has for them. What a neat opportunity we have to pray for the athletes who are playing in the 2012 Olympics.
Did you know that there are people who specifically go to the Olympics to share the name of Jesus. They pray for opportunities to share. Some of them do purchase tickets for Olympic events and use that time to share as well. However, most of their witnessing is done around the venues where the Olympic events are held. Some never even actually seeing an Olympic competition. They walk miles during their "trip" and share often. They have opportunities to plant many seeds. I have a friend in London now. You can check out this site to learn more about this ministry and read testimonies from their sharing. Read more HERE!

I want to challenge each person watching the Olympics to take a moment and pray for the athletes they are watching. I am especially praying for those who are in countries where it is not legal to proclaim the name of Jesus. I want to challenge those of you who are parents to please use this as a teachable moment with your child. This is a great opportunity to share with them that we live in a country where we can worship freely because not everyone does. This is an opportunity to teach them to pray for others especially to know who Jesus is and His incredible love for us. Conversations like this also lead them to think about others and their needs- not their own. It is our human nature to be self-centered. As parents and leaders of children it is our responsibility to shape them. We need to model for them the characteristics we want to show up in them. I believe this is one small example of how we can.
Help them make memories with forms like this from Thirty Handmade Days...........
You can download it Here from Mique's site. It is intended for personal use only. I want to ask you to take one more step when using this form. Turn it over and have your children list the names of specific athletes they are praying will have the opportunity to hear about Jesus and accept Him as their personal Lord and Savior. This will help encourage to pray for them by name or even a specific country. Encourage them to pray for the missionaries who serve in those countries. I am praying specifically for two countries- mainly because I will be on mission trips to these places in the near future -
If you haven't stopped by to see me lately........ you may come to the wrong office. I've moved. In the process of my responsibilities changing from preschool and elementary to just elementary...... I was asked to move offices. The move makes me more centrally located to the elementary wing. This also provided me the opportunity to change the "theme" for my office. For years (just about 17 years) my office was decorated in Noah's Ark. The many things I had acquired over the years were primarily from families I hold very dear to my heart. For now they are packed up but will soon decorate the walls and shelves of my craft room at home. I have been intrigued with penguins for a while now. I had a few things already but slowly a few more "pretties" have shown up. A big shout out to Jesse Wood for the painting that now graces my office wall and the buckets that hold some pretty essential items. Can you tell what is in my buckets? Why yes- that is dum dums in one bucket; pens, scissors, etc. in another and note cards in the bigger bucket. Thanks so much Jesse!

Some of my new penguin friends are in the picture below. One does flips, one is a puzzle and one is just really cute. The main reason I wanted to show you this picture is because there is one thing I could not depart with from the Noah's Ark theme- my name plate. Friends at my first church, Shively Baptist in Louisville, Kentucky gave me this and it had to stay. Good thing it had the same shades of blue from my new office walls so my designer friend Jena would allow it to stay. Does anyone (not from Louisville) know where it was made?

Last night I had the privilege of attending Tennessee's Distinguished Young Women of 2013's Flashback: One Moment in Time. Tonight they will crown the DYW for 2013. This has been a new experience for me. I attended the Bradley County event a few months ago. Many young ladies I knew were competing for the local title. A young lady I have had the privilege to know for the past 8 years won. Miss Ashley Heald holds the title for our community. She is competing against 19 other young ladies from across the state of Tennessee. Last night she did quite well. I am so very proud of her. No matter what happens tonight - win or lose- Ashley is my DYW!

Ashley's heart has always been to follow after Jesus. I can remember when she attended Kid's Evangelism Explosion. She memorized her verses and the stories to aid her in sharing Jesus with her friends quickly. She was able to assist me in helping others in this memorization. The same was true in AWANA and her desire to commit God's word in her heart. She feels God calling her to be a Children's Minister. I know God is going to use her to impact many for His kingdom. He is already doing that through her life and it has been exciting to watch.

I am also so proud of our community. This is the headquarters for this organization (on the state level), so we serve as the host for the state event. Reading the paper all week on the activities the contestants have participated in has been amazing. I realize this would not have been possible if so many organizations and businesses had not opened their door.

I look forward to attending tonight. However, most of all I look forward to watching Ashley as she follows the path God has for her life.
He died on a cross for my sins. He paid the penalty for my debt. A debt He did not owe. All because He Loves Me, Oh how He loves me.

I am thankful it did not end on the cross but three days later .................
The stone had been rolled away. He overcame death and He is Alive! All because He loves me so!

I will never completely understand His love. A love that that sent Him to the cross in my place so I might live forever. He covered my sin and He has covered your sin- all because He loves us!

I am thankful...................
I am blessed....................
I am unworthy................
I am a sinner saved by His grace
ALL because He loves me so!

Much Love!
